Essential Oils

Natural Perfume Making

This training module follows the evolution of the perfume throughout periods and societies.  Originating as incense - also knowns as the Gods’ food - our journey covers perfume formulas favored by the royalty and noblemen, as well as various modes of production and consumption informed by written sources as old as from 1AD. We take a close look at the raw materials used in the natural perfume production and talk about their spiritual remedies. Accompanied by video presentations, together we learn the key points on; making vegetable- and alcohol- based perfumes; what enfleurage is and how it prepared; what tincture is and how it is made and most importantly applications of there various preparations in perfumery.

From Banquets to Harem The Daily Use of Beautiful Scents in Ottoman Palace Culture

This module focuses on the use of beautiful scents in the Ottoman court from banquets to harem. How did they use 100% pure aromatic oils, curative juices, rich minerals and other natural products to smell heavenly? Which herbs and spices were used in the palace to make incense and fragrance? When, in which rooms, and for what purpose did the inhabitants of the palace burn incense or use natural fragrance? For what purpose did Ottoman physicians use fragrant mixtures and incense in treatment? What were the fragrant plants used in the Hamam culture? How did they perfume their clothes, hair and mouth? Immense yourself in the fragrant riches of a long lost empire.

Aromatherapy 

This training module covers the basics of aromatherapy practice, where we use botanical essentials (vegetable and/or essential oils, hydrosols) to help maintain and/or improve one’s physical, emotional and mental health. After this session, our participants gain a general understanding of the subject of  aromatherapy as well as learning about the most commonly used hyrdosols, vegetable and essential oils - and their mechanism of action.

Aromatherapeutic Disinfectants

This training module covers the basics of aromatherapy practice, where we usebotanical essentials (vegetable and/or essential oils, hydrosols) to help maintain and/or improve one’s physical, emotional and mental health. After this session, our participants gain a general understanding of the subject of  aromatherapy as well as learning about the most commonly used hyrdosols, vegetable and essential oils - and their mechanism of action. 3 easy-to-make, natural disinfectant formulas utilizing hydrosols, vegetable and essential oils that can be used at home, in the
office or anywhere outdoors are shared.

Traditional Medicine Making & Theriacs

This module takes a deep dive in the history of Theriacs - an Ancient form of medicine created against the deadly bites of poisonous monsters. We discover the transition of theriacs into modern medicinal pastes. What is a theriac? What ingredients did the ancient physicians use in the famous theriac formulas? How did the Ottoman physicians produce complex medicines? We close the module by producing traditional paste and syrups recipes using original traditional methods.

Potpourri

What is Potpourri? What is used in the preparation of Potpourri? How to prepare wet- and dry-Potpourri mixtures? Where to acquire materials for your Potpourri preparation? This one-hour module introduces our participants to the historical and practical applications of one of the oldest methods of fragrance preservation as well as its tradition to protection against infectious diseases.

Aromatherapy in the Kitchen

This module comprises a comprehensive overview of the practical and safe ways to incorporate aromatherapy in our kitchens. In the light of scientific research, we learn about the curative qualities of the essential oils that we can use in the kitchen, discuss methods of determining dosage and practice using essential oils in our recipes. We close the module with 4 tasty and practical recipes (2 sweet and 2 savory).

Drinks & Potions

This module will take you on a journey through history of medicine and religion.  We will explore the fine line between fragrance, medicine, potion and alcoholic beverages. Looking at the contents of today's popular alcoholic beverages - we will discuss their stories of origin, the medical plants that  they contain and the various purposes of their use.

Beauty Rituals in the Ottoman Palaces

What rituals did the royal ladies follow in the Ottoman Empire in order to preserve and improve their beauty? How did they use aromatic oils, plant essences, curative juices, grains, rich minerals and other natural products? In this module, our participants explore some rare and delicate cosmetic flowers as well as learning how to use their  hydrolats, oils and seeds in natural cosmetics production. We will take a leaf from the royal physician's book and learn about making an all natural precious serum, a nurturing face mask and a tonic water…Your perspective on cosmetics will be perpetually changed after participating in this module.

Forest Bathing

Forest bathing which the Japanese call "shinrin-yoku" ( "taking in the forest") is a therapy method that has been used for centuries in the East. In this module, you will increase your interaction with the outside world and the nature around you with a calm, highly aware and oxygen-rich walk accompanied by breathing exercises into the depths of the forest. You will experience your perceptions heighten, your body relax and feel your stress levels decrease significantly. We call this %100 pure aromatherapy.

Natural Incense

From shamanism to monotheistic religions... From South America to Japan…

We embark on a scented journey through centuries and continents. We discover the incense raw materials as well as the methods and objectives of their traditional use. Accompanied by video presentations, we learn the key techniques on preparing different types of incense as well as lighting them properly in order to enjoy and benefit from their smoke.

Perfume Plants of Turkey &

Their Practical Uses

In this one-hour workshop, we will talk about 8 different perfume plants from Turkey - from their cultivation to the raw material production, we will look at their use in the perfume industry. In the second part of the module, we look at various practical ways that we can take advantage of these plants for their scent and flavor in our daily lives.

Fragrance Culture of the Ancient World

This historical journey of the fragrance will begin in Ancient Egypt and continue with Persians, Greeks and Romans. This one-hour module will cover the popular fragrances used by these societies as well as their formulas and rituals.

This module presents our participants with a closer look at the Ottoman medicine.  During our module, we will talk about the rich Ottoman medical heritage and share some delightful scented syrup and paste recipes. As well as covering the various perspectives of the Ottoman physicians about the universe and the human-being in general, we will dive deep into their treatment approaches, types of treatment that they used, medications prepared by the chief physicians and their cabinet content of remedies...

Equine-Aromatherapy

In this module, you will gain a general understanding of the subject of equine-aromatherapy while having the chance to familiarize yourself with 10 essential- and 5 vegetable-oils that are commonly used for the needs of horses. You will learn about their use, effect mechanisms and application in the stables and out in the open in connection with maintaining and supporting your horses’ health and well-being.

Aromatherapy for Pets

Particularly in the last 20 years, the ever-expanding scientific literature based on empirical evidence contributed to the increasingly popular use of aromatherapy for animal health. In this module you will gain a general understanding of the subject of  aromatherapy for pets as well as learning about the research-based, effective and practical aromatherapy applications on cats, dogs and exotic birds.

Medicinal & Aromatic Plants: Cultivation to Medicine Making

In this module, our participants are introduced to a variety of medical plants and get a chance to learn the little known aspects of their cultivation, use in curative preparations and their safe use. How to benefit from medical plants in creating natural medicine? What should one pay attention to when preparing medical teas in order to preserve their curative qualities? We will learn how to read the energetic qualities of medical aromatic plants in order to address seasonal needs of our bodies based on ancient medical guidelines.

Cologne:A Short History &Formulas

The story of cologne begins in the Middle Ages with the emergence of the alcohol-based perfumes. In this module, we take you on a journey from the Persian Empire to Tuscany and Northern Europe. We will witness the evolution of a historical fragrance - from the discovery of the miraculous juice to the immortal beauty formulas of the Queens in the Middle Ages. Our participants will not only discover the “original” cologne formulas from the 19th century perfumers, but will also learn how to prepare their own natural colognes at home.
